What is a meeting bot?

Bot notetakers appear on the participant list. They can unsettle sources, confuse clients, or break house rules. yapyap never joins as a guest.

Instead, it records through your microphone and the sound your computer already plays. People on the call see nothing unusual. Consent and policy stay your call.

What it means in practice

  • No third-party avatar on Zoom, Meet, or Teams.
  • Quieter interviews and client calls.
  • You still get transcripts and write-ups afterward, on your computer.

How to spot one

  • It appears in the participant list, often named after the vendor’s mascot.
  • Someone has to admit it from the waiting room.
  • It usually needs calendar access to know which meetings to join.

The last one is the part people miss. A bot notetaker often reads your whole calendar so it knows where to appear. yapyap never sees your calendar, because nothing has to join anything.

FAQ

What is a meeting bot?
A notetaker guest that joins Zoom, Meet, or Teams on the calendar invite. yapyap never does that.
How does yapyap capture without a bot?
From your computer’s audio or companion phone mic. The guest list stays empty.
Does a meeting bot need access to my calendar?
Usually yes. It reads the invite to know which call to join. yapyap does not connect to a calendar, because it records from your side.
